Common Handyman Projects
Ok, if you read our previous article you now know what to do when hiring a handyman. But the question remains…WHEN do you hire a handyman?
A simple rule would be that any major service that requires a license in the state of NC should automatically go to a professional that specializes in that field. This would include plumbers, electricians, heating and air conditioning services, home security, and general contractors (GC's must be used for all jobs over $30,000).
Always make sure that your handyman has experience in whatever task you require. Many times a handyman’s ego may keep them from telling you that they have never done the task you ask them to complete. It is up to you to probe and find out if your handyman is up to the task.
This is especially important on tasks that may have bad or expensive ramifications if done incorrectly (such as building a deck or fixing a roof). If it seems unclear whether the handyman has experience in these types of projects you are better off hiring a pro that specializes in these areas.
Common items for handymen:
Minor wood replacement, minor plumbing, painting, putting together furniture or appliances, installing shelving, installing ceiling fans, fixing doors, fixing windows, installing trim, simple installations, drywall repair, and many other common “honey-do’s” that you either can’t do yourself or don’t have time to do.
